Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass

October 24 – January 10, 2027

This stunning exhibition brings together more than 120 works by 33 Indigenous artists from North America, Australia and New Zealand, alongside pioneering glass artist Dale Chihuly. Drawing on traditional stories, designs and cultural knowledge while addressing contemporary Indigenous experiences, these artists harness the unique properties of glass to reinterpret cultural traditions in a dynamic contemporary medium. The result is a groundbreaking exhibition that expands the story of Native art and reveals the remarkable creative possibilities of glass.

George Flett: Remembering

September 23, 2026 - January 10, 2027

The MAC honors beloved Spokane artist George Flett (spoqín/sp'q'n'iʔ/Spokan [Spokane Tribe of Indians], 1946–2013), whose work helped revive Ledger Art and the Prairie Chicken Dance. This intimate exhibition celebrates Flett’s remarkable career and his enduring role as an artist, mentor, and preserver of Spokane and Plateau history.

America on the Move

September 19, 2026 - February 14, 2027

Drawing from the MAC's permanent collection, America on the Move explores themes of human movement — migration, immigration, seasonal rounds, and commuting. Where have we been, and where are we going? The exhibition features works by 20th- and 21st-century artists such as Humaira Abid, Ruben Trejo, Ric Gendron, and Jacob Lawrence, alongside a rare opportunity to see multimedia installations by Patrick Zentz and Willem Volkersz that have not been on view in decades.

Ben Mickelson: Alpine Daydreams

October 2 – November 29, 2026

Artist Reception & Talk, Oct 28th, 5-8 PM

Alpine Daydreams is a collection of mixed-media works examining the perception, fluctuation, and vulnerability of landscape.  Through layered surfaces and graceful schemes, Ben Mickelson’s work compresses lived experience into fragments of terrain. The paintings are less depictions of place than records of how landscape is remembered and reassembled over time.

Carrying Tradition: Basketry of the Columbia Plateau

Carrying Tradition invites visitors into living practice of Columbia River Plateau basket weaving. Through baskets that carry food, knowledge, and responsibility, the exhibit reveals how tradition moves forward through hands, families, and the land. Highlighting learning across generations, active cultural practice, and deep relationships with place, the experience centers continuity rather than nostalgia – presenting weaving as a vibrant expression of identity, stewardship, and care for the future.

America at 250: 25 Decades of Collected Memories

Starting with the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, the United States have been conducting the great “American experiment” for the last 250 years. For 25 decades, people have kept and collected objects that were important to them for a variety of reasons. By looking back at what materials were collected by the museum since its founding, we catch a glimpse of the ways that our community have been impacted by and left their mark on American history.

Emma Noyes: Continuing the Conversation

Continuing the Conversation, a mural by Emma Noyes, features Mole Woman. Noyes depicts this powerful being in conversation with the nearby mural by artist Ric Gendron, set on an improvised tule-mat coffee table on the land outside a Nespelem encampment.

Sísnce (Little Brother)

Sísnce ("Little Brother") is a traditional cedar dugout canoe, hand-carved on the MAC campus in 2022 by carvers from several Columbia Plateau tribes.
